Matt is an AV-rated attorney whose practice areas include civil litigation, creditors’ rights, bankruptcy, landlord-tenant law (commercial and residential), music and small business law. He was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 2005 and is also admitted to practice before the Federal Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern and Western Districts of Virginia and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia.
Throughout his career representing creditors he has been appointed as special counsel to a Chapter 7 Trustee in a corporate bankruptcy matter and has extensive experience in creditor litigation, including creditor’s suits, suits to enforce mechanic’s liens, corporate veil-piercing cases and post-judgment creditor actions. He is a former officer and active member of the Virginia Creditors’ Bar Association.
A former co-chair of the Lawyers for the Arts Section of the Virginia Bar Association, Matt has presented topics of contracts, copyright and corporations to the School of Media Arts and Design at James Madison University, and to both the School of the Arts and School of Music at Virginia Commonwealth University. He is a co-author and presenter of the Essentials of Landlord Tenant Law for Virginia CLE and was an active participant with the Campaign to Reduce Evictions Legislative sub-workgroup (CARE) as a landlord advocate.
Graduating magna cum laude from James Madison University in 1994, Matt earned a bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in music industry. He received his master’s degree in media writing and production from the University of Miami in 1997 and obtained his juris doctorate from the University of Richmond in 2005.
